Morning all
I have a 1990 Bavaria 300 (9.55m), fin keel (securely attached !) based in Brighton Marina. Although I have had the boat for almost a year I have not had much time to get out on the water due to other “delightful activities” – mainly an almost complete refurbishment of our bungalow. Last season, for me, was almost non-existent as far as boating was concerned. Job’s all done now so (hopefully) I’m going to get lots of use from the boat.
Although I did my Dayskipper course 2 years ago I have not put enough of what I learned into practice since then – other than a couple of ‘jolly jaunts’ out of Brighton to Eastbourne and Shoreham and a few bits of ‘messing around’ just off Brighton.
My main need now is to get a bit of proper sail trimming practice under my belt, to not only get the best out of the boat but make it altogether more enjoyable. A bit less ‘fighting the wind’ at least. I hasten to add that I have a couple of very good books on the subject, but it’s one thing reading about it..............................
I am what I suppose you could call ‘an active OAP’ (67) still with a sense of adventure and a reasonable sense of humour. I’ve done the usual mundane things one does in their earlier years, like hitchhiking round quite a bit of Africa, white water rafting down the Sun Kosi river in Nepal for a couple of weeks, raising and driving a 10 man team down a river in an annual 3 day 100 mile raft race. I did that for 15 years and loved it, more satisfying because it was for a worthy cause. All good fun.
Now, being retired and having done all the jobs around the house (although my wife may have a different opinion about that), I’m wondering if anyone has the time to offer me a couple of hours or so of their time with a bit of practical sail trimming technique. Weekday or weekend are both fine for me. Ample supply of coffee and biscuits of course, that goes without saying. I have my boat in Brighton Marina so it would seem most practical / convenient if anyone in that area is up for it.
Many thanks in advance
