I have some fairly old Jeckell sails (unknown fabric) for a Mirror dinghy. A couple of the sail numbers have come adrift - what would be the best glue to reattach them that won't harm the sail?

If you are sure you want to ... Non Solvent Contact glue .... but TBH - why not remove and put new - cheap enough even off eBay ... that way you have a much better longer lasting fix.

I would use impact adhesive such as made by bostick or maybe a double sided tape such as used for carpets. Not to sure how water resistant the tape is though.

Be careful with the Bostik style adhesives ... in summer - they can ooze and then sail has a bad sticky patch ... hard to get rid off ..
The Copydec more fluid style are better as they don't have that gooeyness ...
You can of course spot tack the offending with Superglue ... not a continuous bead as that is hard and not flex ... but small spots at intervals tacking it down can work.

That reminded me ... local shop here painted my old dodgers boat name with Bathroom Vinyl Emulsion ... remains flexi ...

Thanks for the replies - Ill try the copydec glue that refueler mentioned I think - there were only a couple of the numbers that were coming away - the rest all seem ok

I think you will find he meant Copydex.
I am pretty sure it won't stick to the vinyl letters and I doubt if it will stick to the sail cloth.

If there are only two or three coming adrift replacing will probably be cheaper than a pot of glue.
The blackboard paint really did work though. I did not clean the sail , just painted it on over the sticky residue left by the old numbers.

That's the matter I consider ... the sticky residue ... its a real pain to remove ...
I have Goo Gone ... and various other brand Glue remover fluids and glue such as used on UV strip .. Sail No's is particularly hard to sort ...
There are special Fabric paints as well that can be used ... weatherproof for outside banners ..
