An announcement from Sail GP starts with “a member-based community creating new immersive partnerships and experiences using innovative Web3 structures, today announced they are launching a SailGP fan-owned racing team across Bermuda and the Caribbean. Using a DAO structure and built on the NEAR Protocol, this team is expected to open new opportunities in sports ownership and fan engagement.”

A bit of googling decodes DAO as a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation “is an emerging form of legal structure that has no central governing body and whose members share a common goal to act in the best interest of the entity” with decisions apparently not made by a central organisation but instead “The voting process for DAOs is posted on a blockchain”.
Not quite sure therefore how they can have a CEO, as quoted, as that sounds rather centralised and conventional. And quite how you can have a stable race team if every decision needs to be made by a group of investors on the blockchain. Somewhat differnt from Sail GPs typically very autocratic team principals (and Mr Ellison himself).
