Hi all,
I have a fairly old fully battened mainsail.
It has a large sticky patch on both sides, about 4x3 feet.
This is residue from some sort of stickers that have been applied in the past.
They are both now sticky gloopy messes, as you can imagine.
Wonder Wipes made no in roads.
So I am considering Acetone!!!!
Does anyone think that this will harm the material?

Best Regards
Dave

I've used Goo Gone on sails. Perhaps not as aggressive as acetone and therefore worth a try first. You can get it from Amazon.

If you google "sail number glue remover" you'll come across some spray stuff sold by dinghy chandlers like Purple Marine.

My son got some for a second hand training sail he bought for his Laser - it's not too aggressive and does work, but does take at least a couple of goes - the first to loosen the stuff, the second to get the residue off the sail.

The can he bought seemed to be a relabelled can of graffitti remover... so there may be cheaper solutions.
