However, on renewal, it'll go thru the roof.

I got a quote from Saga a couple of years ago. Price was good but when asked a few questions they didn't have a clue. Hate to think what would have happened had there been a claim that needed prompt attention.
Don't believe price should be the driving criteria when buying boat insurance.

Although SAGA sponsored a pensioner (R K-J) in a single handed round the world race, they told us they would not offer cover for ocean sailing.
In our almost completed circumnavigation, most cruising couples we have encountered would qualify for SAGA and most cause little trouble to the insurers.

Saga not competitive on price or conditions. Age is not a discriminating factor on yacht insurance. They are just an (uncompetitive) broker. Plenty of much better specialist around.

Complete waste of time unless you have been a TOTAL numpty with your insurance up until now. They wanted to more than triple my car insurance.

I've been stupid enough to use them for car insurance on and off over the last 10 years. Their prices vary incredibly, but my Merc SLK was insured for about £250 and currently my Merc ML is insured for £272. All car insurers are crooks, you just have to shop around.

A couple of years ago, got such a good quote from them for Marys car that I said that I would ring them when my renewal came up.

The answer came, 'Sorry sir, I am afraid we do not insure toy boys'!!

Made my day. Needless to say I am now insurable with them as well.

I've always found them far too expensive for cars - just been quoted £450 for my ancient Peugeot 306 estate - my renewal from LV= was £165 ! Similar overpriced for the boat.
