Glad its not just me who thinks this way.
I too am often confused by this "wont get there any quicker" statement Err yes I will.
As for it being a rubish post. Not that rubish that you did not want to respond /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I agree with the complicated welsh sign theory also. Takes ten minutes to attempt to read the things and try to say it, by which time your shirt is full of spit and phlem from all the "Ll" pronunciation attempts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The point I was trying to make was that whilst he is happy at 85 only looking ahead, what about the bigger arse behind him that wants to do 100, and the gigantic arse behind the bigger arse who wants to do 120.

Speed with pleasure but don't complain about those who wanna speed more.
The comment about not arriving quicker was about lane jumping and speeding in heavy traffic, been proved that arrival times under those conditions are not much different.
Its a lack of acceleration that make cars dangerous, even the shittiest of cars does over a ton nowaydays
thats why I prefer to use the bike

Thnks its the bits at the end that do it.

Its quicker for me to go to London by train at 125mph (in parts and providing no snow, leaves etc) than it is to go by airyplane at 500mph.

Average speed on motorways is more about picking the right lane in the road works than how quick you go in the bits between.

If I take the wife's car - 30 mins, if I take the Porsche then 20mins as most people just pull over and let you through and can keep a good average up.

Why do people pull over when you are in the little bug eyed motor? has it got a blue light on the roof ?

The speedometer, even in a new car, can be up to 10% fast under the construction & use regs.

Whenever I have bought a new, or S/H, car I try and find a reasonably straight and level stretch of dual carriageway or clear motorway and time the distance between km posts with a stopwatch. On most cars I have found that 70mph on the speedo is only 64-67mph in real time.

I tend to travel, traffic permitting, at an indicated 75 - 77 when police cars or cameras in sight. I have been followed but never stopped.

I also will pass cruising patrol cars which are keeping at or below a real 70, conditions permitting, at an indicated 75-77. Again, never been challenged. (That's apart from a noddy car who pulled me over. When I asked to see the test certificate for his car speedo he went rather red in the face, shut his little book and drove off without a further word. I then passed him "over the limit" further down the road and he ignored me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.)
