A good friend (who is a technophobe) has severely damaged a stanchion base beyond repair and is looking for a “like for like “ replacement. No manufacturing marks or numbers. Anyone got any ideas where he can get one?

Another option - usually only followed after a bit of prodding

Take a picture, post it here - someone may recognise it. There are not that many makers of stanchions.

I find it stunningly amazing - so many people have a mobile phone that can perform a whole and varied number of functions - that no-body uses (the myriad of functions)

Just been able to get photo - see below - so if anyone has one of these lurking in the garage/shed or know of one please let me know and I will pass the details on. Thanks

Marked as Sowester so probably used on many classes of boat. Photo below - if anyone has one of these spare or knows where they can be bought, please let me know and I will pass the details on to my mate.

Thanks

I've never heard of Proboat (note I live 'down under'). I thought they might be from Ronstan and ......

.... I had a quick search - there are lots of stainless bases, similar, but not identical to the one for which you search like this

Proboat Catalogue Search Stanchion Base

and e-bay in Oz has lots, in stainless - probably all from the same supplier in China

My previous boat had a whole set of knackered Al stanchion bases - original stanchions were Al, but had been replaced with stainless, hence the crumbling!

I just took the best one to a stainless fabricator and he made up a nice "bling" set in a matching hole/fitting pattern.

Nice!
