Under the quarter berth of my Sadler 29 adjacent to the battery box there is a recess that has not been cut out. has anyone done this? and what would i find?
My guess is - firstly - not a lot of space, looking at the curve of the hull. Presumably why they didn't bother making it a locker. But also - isn't the 29 one of the foam-filled Sadlers? In which case, I assume if you cut open the fibreglass you would find a solid block of foam bonded in place.
Answered in the Sadler forum, but now seeing the pics it does seem strange that the recess is formed but was never actually cut out. Probably just an oversight at the time!.
PRV: Early (pre c. 1986) Sadler 29s were not foam filled in many places like this and did not claim 'unsinkability' Later boats had foam added in various cavities to supposedly achieve unsinkability but at the expense of lost stowage etc.
