Sad news from Brightlingsea

A lot of sad faces around the Brightlingsea Smack Dock today. The flag at half mast is tribute to our exceptional Harbour Master Steve Chick who passed away yesterday, very unexpectedly. Steve followed a long career of leadership in the Royal Navy with a dedication to our Harbour. He loved our boats and we loved him right back. We figure if Heaven needs a bit of sorting out he'll have systems in place before the gates shut behind him.
Right now our thoughts are with his family.

We are B'sea based but hadn't bumped into Steve yet. Shame

Very shocked. Steve was a very nice and very professional chap and had already made a difference there.

Steve was a great chap. We were Lieutenants in RN together, I left for civvy street, he stayed and ended up a Commodore. About same age as me so no age at all. Very sad.

Extremely sad, we only met him once when we were there last year, but he was very helpful and friendly. I am sure he will be greatly missed.
