Looks like we will have passengers joining us for a week of our 6 week summer sail.

We refuse to sail to a timetable but assuming weather sometime in first 3 weeks enables us to get South from UK can anyone recommend marinas in S Brittany or Morbian where people can park their car for a week?

If there are a few I can then tell them to just book car ferry to St Malo and confirm nearest marina at time of arrival.

Wasn't really looking at parking but of the places we visited Loctudy and Crouesty seemed to have plenty of space around them. Vannes, Port Haliguen, Port Luis (l'Orient), and Concarneau didn't.

I keep my boat in that area, can can offer the following...

The major marinas like la Trinite, Crouesty, Arzal are generally co-operative, and will repond to a nicely put request., and indeed are used to it. Almost everywhere else there are ad hoc facilities of a more public nature, though generally security for UK cars is not a general issue, because no French tea-leaf will want to nick one, and if it looks empty they will leave it alone. However again an approach will rarely be met with "you can't", it will more likely be a shrug, and "if you wish". I did hear of one marina employee who offered parking in his (quiet) street. Vannes is a significant sized town with lots of public parking, which tends to be relatively secure compared with a UK town, Lorient similarly, though less gentile.

You say summer, but beware the crowds in school holidays - it affects everything.

PM me if you want to discuss.

I leave my car in Arzal for 6 weeks over summer - plenty are there for longer. I am a berth holder but there are no checks on who owns what. Also coded barrier entry. Trinity marina uses on road parking which has no time restrictions.

Crouesty is probably your best bet - large free parking area next to visitors' basin, and no tidal problems to worry about for pick-up or drop off. Also Vannes has a large underground car park next to the inner yacht basin, but very tide dependent.

You might want to qualify that better... As in: Do I park my car low down in the underground park at springs or only neaps?

BTW, love Vannes. Will be back next year for the semainedugolfe.

Dont bother with Port Haliguen as road access is very congested getting on and off the Quiberon peninsular is a problem and you may be stuck in queues for weeks!

We left car and trailer parked at Foleux for three weeks. Alternative locations Arzal, Le Crouesty,La Trinite as previously recommended.

If you park in an open, public space during summer, I suggest you check with the Mairie or the Tourist Office if there are any planned popular fairs, flee markets, etc. During the odd "Fête de la langoustine", Crab or whatever, they often arrange stands at the public parking spaces, a couple of days before they put a sign saying "Stationnement interdit à partir de...", as one cannot legally occupy parking space for more than 24h, they are entitled to bring your car away, once back you have to pay the cost of removal plus the parking fine..

Very pertinent point. Another reason for using Crouesty, as anything like Fetes or Fairs are at the other end of the port and not on the car park. Another possibility is St Catherines at Locmiquelec, just upriver from Port Louis, a very friendly and helpful Marina with a decent car park by the Marina.

If you go to the harbour office in La Trinite and part with a few euros you are given the barrier code and can park off the public road for a week. Never had any trouble with this arrangement.

Port de Creusty has plenty of parking, then on into the Morbihan -- Vannes, then later Auray, the latter if draught and air-draught permit. Both towns are well worth a visit. Your visitors will be mucho pleased !!!

You don't say whether the visitors are ardent sailors or "landlubbers" to be treated with great care.

Thanks for all the responses.

One couple are retired sailors that we first met dinghy racing. They sold their 36' boat as not using it enough. They have uped sticks and now live in France. Other couple has sailed for a few weeks but are (like SWMBO) fair weather sailors only.
