Contact captsensible, he runs a school down ther.

Gibraltar is non tidal.
When I was looking for something similar, the Gibraltar schools only issued "Non Tidal" qualifications. But that was some years ago.

Utter rubbish. I did all of my certs in GiB. It has quite a large tide, shipping lanes, difficult port entries, interesting wind and weather patterns...

Definitely not non-tidal.

PS used Trafalgar Sailing, excellent fun. Also bare boated with Hercules.

I did mine there with Trafalgar Sailing in 2011 - 100% recommended. Great weather (although obviously can't be planned), busy BUSY shipping, checking into different country ports (Morocco and Spain), tidal work. Excellent tuition, friendly, well looked after - great fun.

When my wife and I did our coastal skipper in Gib, she decided we make a holiday out of it and we had one night at the Rock Hotel. It was definitely a good place to have a celebration party.

Did my DS Practical with All Aboard many years ago - it is Tidal and I thoroughly enjoyed it - here's a picture taken when crossing the straits:

Word of warning.

We did DS in Gib in 98 with Straights Sailing as it is tidal but later came totally unstuck trying to berth our Dufour 36 in Hamble on our maiden voyage.

Felt like the guy that won the lottery, bought a sports car but had no driving licence.

At that time my boat was chartered with Hamble School of Yachting and they kindly gave me an instructor and crew one evening to teach me how to berth with 4kts of tide running through the berth.

There is tidal and there is tidal!!

I chose Gib to make it a holiday in the sunshine for 1st officer but IMHO best learning curve is to do DS or YM in the Solent area in windy weather.

Yes - I received my DS Practical in Gibraltar and it is a "Tidal" qualification. In fact the tides around Europa Point are very strong with overfalls. You also have to calculate the offset between the ocean current streaming into the Mediterranean and the tides - interesting. Gibraltar Bay has several marinas for various close quarter work. Marina hopping up the Costa del Sol is a lot of fun, or you may be luckier still and get over to Cueta or Tangiers. I went with Blue Oyster Sailing. Our instructor Oliver was a great bloke. It was like boot camp for sailing - tough and not many pleases and thank your - but this was just what I wanted and you knew it was because he wanted you to be a better sailor and had your interests at heart.
