I have around 25 m of old anchor chain. It's still sound and plenty strong enough for my little Snapdragon, but is very rusty. Three questions:

1. Can it be re-galvanised?
2. If so, is it worth it, in terms of cost and protection for the chain?
3. Where can I get it done? - preferably N London or Gosport areas.

Many thanks

1) Yes.
2) Not worth it, for 25 meters. IMHO
3) There are a couple of places near you, look in yellow pages. Make sure they do chain, it's a specialist job, requiring spinning to free the links.

Their are Southampton Galvanizers near to where the boatshow is at the moment and also Wessex Galvanizers in Eastleigh ,but check if the do Chain and how much they will charge you, they charge by the Kilo generally.

Some years ago I had my anchor chain galvanised by a Company called Crittalls Windows, at the time their plant was based in Witham, Essex. They did an excellent job and the manager of the plant at the time told me they liked having it as they could hang it up and then hang other things on it. I know that seems to suggest there would be holes in the galvanising but this did not seem to be the case. The Company are still in existence based on the Springfield Industrial Estate, Braintree, Essex. Their telephone number is 01376-324106. It might be worth giving them a ring as they are still galvanising all their steel windows. Hope this helps.

i wouldnt bother you can get new chain from boat jumbles cheap enoughf and it is reasuring to know it has got to be better than geting your old stuff redone and to know your boat will be that little bit more secure.
