calc - welcome to the forum by the way (seriously!) I know for sure through experience that the bad guys give the good guys a very bad reputation. I have to say that this year at MYC we have seen quite a few jet-skis trundle into our harbour and trundle out again without so much as a slight problem. Over in Abersoch, they really are a bleedin' nuisance in the anchorages.

In the end, and as with all things, its down to the people. And I have seen some real stinkers when it comes to yachtsmen, dinghy sailors, power boaters and jet skiers. But again, as with all walks of life, they are very much in the minority.

Enjoy your jet ski!

Thanks for the welcome Dave, I have read all the posts and it pains me to agree that it is most correct and I don’t doubt what anyone has said. As I said before I do not head out to the salty stuff when I ski, I started skiing about 7 years ago now when I used to live in Scotland mainly at Loch Earn there is no byelaws there but there is local community laws that restrict the speed from launching at the Drummond hotel in St Fillans to about ½ a mile to the main area, if you do so the £20 deposit you ay is kept by the hotel you launch from.

This was started as there was people flying down the water at full chat then stopping doing a few spins and then buggering off again back up the loch. Incidentally these people were residents at the private caravan park and most of them were young i.e. 16 or younger so as you can guess that started to piss me off as when I came in people used to tell me off as I came in to moor the ski whereas these others did not stop basically I think they just done it piss off the locals, kind of the same as what I expect these people that come in to soak bathers and get very close to moored boats etc.

I also used to launch from Millarochy Bay at Loch Lomond and there was always the same type of thing although at least Loch Lomond did have some patrol on it. I have always been quite lucky as most of my life I have worked shifts and do spend most of my time out on the water during the week when they are nice and quiet. I do hope that in the future things can get sorted so we don’t have the animosity but the whole policing issue is the stopper if you ask me.

We had a guy at the beginning of the season came down to launch his newly bought eBay ski on the river after a few questions we found out he was not a member of the club, not insured and it showed when he continued to launch his ski which did not work and to top it off he did not even know there was drain plugs on the back of it he was lucky to get it out before it sank. We have not seen him since.

The stretch of water I ski on is only about ¾ mile long so its not too hard for British waterways to see who should and should no be there and there is strong byelaws on launching and speed and the river has speed cameras stretching all the way from the Barrage to Yarm so anyone speeding is dealt with accordingly.

Anyway less of my going on my finger hurts now.
