I want to run a tack line for an asymmetric spinnaker on my Westerly Konsort. Though about running it along the base of the stanchions as per a furling line but not sure this if could tack the load of the spinnaker.

The spinnaker tack line would be through a block attached to the bow roller and then led back to the cockpit and a jamming cleat. The ideal run would be down the side of the boat.

Any thoughts or experience on other options?

Thanks

I ran ours (white with red flec) over the coach roof, from the bow roller (I just use 1 side of the bow roller itself, rather than a separate block) through a fairlead on the front of coach roof to the deck organiser and then to a spare clutch by the companion way. This has worked well, and means you can easily adjust the tension using the winch while the kite is flying.
I also run the furling line (white) the same way, but I did have a couple of spare clutches when I bought the boat.

We run ours over the coach roof to a spare winch under the spray hood. (Similar to Kwik decision).
If I pull sideways in the line the force the fairleads take surprising doesn't seem that high (35ft boat)
I think you would be fine down the side deck if you have a good way to run the line there.

The load on any turning or guide block is dependent on the direction change. So the block at the bow takes a huge load but any guide blocks down the side at stanchion bases will not change direction much so very little load. So do that if it suits you. ol'will

Mine's a 2m long piece of spare rope that goes under the bow roller and is secured to one of the fwd mooring cleats. It's rigged to the correct length and I've never found a need to adjust it in use..

If concerned about the load carried into the stanchion bases, you could consider halving that load by fitting the outboard end of your tack line as a 2:1 purchase.

Thanks for the responses. My initial thought was to run it to one of the forward mooring cleats but it is nice to have the sail control lines in the cockpit.
I will give it a try running down the station bases.
