"rugged" laptops

Re: \"rugged\" laptops

I bought a second hand toughbook on ebay plus additional memory - under £200 3 years ago. Slow by modern standards but runs my nav and plotter programmes OK.
Main reason for buying it was concern about vibration, thumping off waves, etc damaging hard drive while running (as opposed to when turned off). No problem so far and a lot lighter power drain than my new Acer.
Am happy to use the toughbook as a plotter when underway, and when it does fail I will have had my moneys worth out of it.

Picked up a tough book on ebay (only thing purchased on it). Followed two weeks later by visit from BT security looking for their stolen Toughbook!
And it came from a reputable source - even BT were having problems chasing it back.

Wow! Haven't been able to access the site for a couple of weeks and an absolute cornucopia of useful information has resulted. Thank you all VERY much. Will definitely look into the Thinkpad option and also have a very good search around Ebay. Have always been nervous about buying electronics / electrical goods from ebay, though, although have made plenty of other purchases.
