3l of “wood oil” for 12 and change in Lidl just now.
Also decking stain, IIRC. Probably too late for me though.

My neighbor in the yard, a Westerly Pageant, told me he used decking stain. Looks bloody awful, with a surface skin aparently trapping water next to the wood, as does degraded varnish. I suppose stains may vary, and perhaps they dont all do this.I really would never use any engine based oil ..... my opinion. using such has now removed other viable products from use.
Decking stain is specially formulated for teak and various woods specifically to counter weather / UV etc. When I say 'water-based' - that is based on fact that brushes / pads / rollers etc can be washed out in water ....
Linseed Oil ..... on ship - as a Cadet - I was taught to use Linseed oil on Wood and Boiled Linseed Oil on metal .... but I am also aware that some do use BLO on wood as it dries better and quicker ....
But I would not use it on a yacht TBH - as in the sun it can leach out ... staining clothes etc.

No skin on my sump oil, just looks a bit black, so I'm not too upset yet.
I'll look silly if it gives me skin cancer though.
I confirmed with him verbally this morning. Of course he may mis-remember, or may have applied the stain over something else. Degraded varnish, for example.I would suggest that your mate did not use a stain .. but a different form, True Decking Stain soaks in ... its thin .. literally thinner than water ...
