Weather webcast

Our resident meteorologist, Chris Tibbs at Sailing-weather Ltd, is keeping his eye on the latest weather information for tomorrow's big race! His latest forecast is provided below. Don't forget that Chris will also be presenting the Raymarine Weather Webcast this evening (Friday) which will be available here, courtesy of BT Rich Media, from around 8pm.

Outlook for Saturday 18th June 2005...

There will be high pressure over the English Channel tonight extending into the Southern North Sea. On Saturday morning the high in the Channel will weaken and the main centre of the high is expected over the North Sea near Holland.

This is going to drop the wind overnight to calm in the Solent and the Channel, with a high risk of mist or fog banks.

Tomorrow morning the wind will be light and variable in the Solent before picking up from the E-SE. Although it is expected to be force 3 or less, it should reach a force 4 near St Catherine's during the afternoon. The high pressure will limit the formation of a sea breeze although there should be some funnelling of the wind in the eastern Solent.

The mist and fog will be slow to clear tomorrow morning in the Solent and there is a risk of fog banks particularly south of the Isle of Wight. Visibility will therefore be moderate or poor throughout the day.

The temperature should reach 22ºC on land, higher if the mist burns off early and we get some sunshine.

Thanks for that.

All of a sudden I feel less disappointed that I'm not competing this year /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've got this vision of 1600 navigators swatting up on their 'blind nav' technique tonight.

Could get rather messy at the Needles.

Good luck to you all !

Have a nice race.

Thanks, I'd not looked there. We're going "normal" sailing rather than racing, though only for the day due to the general lack of wind this weekend and the general lack of visitors' berths in the Solent this weekend due to the RTI. I see some forecasts (Theyr) are still showing a F3 SE with E F3-4 off St Cat's in the afternoon, but I seriously doubt we'll see anything more than the sea breeze off Chichester & Langstone harbours in the afternoon. I try to look at all the forecasts and not to pick the one that says what I want it to! My main worry looks like being not having booked a table in the "Maypole" for this evening's dinner with Mrs W.

lets face it with all those boats around all you need to do is follow the guy in front.

Mind you I don't fancy being on B & Q doing 25 knots in the fog going through Hurst !

For some strange reason, I have a vision of a spate of collision regs and racing rules type postings coming to a forum somewhere near here soon........ /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sail with the fleet then off to Poole..

Actually that sounds like a good idea.

At least you've got a chance to get a berth while the others are out racing.
