Royal Navy Beret

The look lies in the shaping of the new beret. The issue beret is way over size and will indeed resemble a cow pat unless shaped. Soak the beret in hot water, gently wring it to remove excess water and place it on head: shape it to match your requirements and then remove it and place somewhere warm to dry. It’ll shrink and retain much of its wet shape. Repeat if required but be aware that the band may also shrink, so it’s important to shape it on your head to minimise the chance of shrinking the band too much.
If you’ve bought the beret minus badge, sew the badge on before shaping. It’ll be impossible to get the shape right without the badge.

Thanks all.
As I said in my original post what I'm after is the older style beret with a larger crown, not the new "small crown" design is quite a different look but they seem rather elusive - everyone's selling small crown ones.
I don't have a decent surplus shop nearby I'm afraid.

Along with the woolly pully, the beret was the beginning of the end of any kind of smart. I threw mine in the bin the day I left.

Fishing line on Remembrance Sunday?

Perhaps try a military outfitter, they can often hold older stock and styles? Are they the same as the army navy blue ones - if so you could try Herbert Johnson, I always bought from from them, pricey but high quality
