Rowhedge quayside datum depth...?

Hoping to pick someone up between the pubs at Rowhedge quayside next Sunday morning, but see the tides are quite low... HT is 3.7m at 9.35am at Brightlingsea...

Does the panel think I'll be OK with a 1.8m draft to tie up for 10mins around 9.45am?

I'm not too sure what the datum depth is...

Thanks!

I live in Rowhedge and bought Gladys here two or three times, but never to go alongside, because I got too nervous... She drew 1.5. The only places to tie up are upstream of the Anchor pub or on the pontoon. The wall has sheet piling and needs a fender board, and as an estimate the mud against the wall is probably about 1.5m drying.

Last time I came I chickened out just above the Wivenhoe Barrier, as the channel was shallowing rapidly.

Edit: I've just been down there, to estimate. With the Height of Tide at West Mersea at 0.8, the drying height alongside the wall looks more like 2 metres

Hi ex-Gladys,

that is very kind of you! I have tied up alongside near the Albion a few times successfully, but always on a fuller tide...

I think I'll creep up about 20 mins before HT and if I can't get on I'll anchor briefly and send the crew ashore in a dinghy to execute the pick up!

New question - how much later is HT at Rowhedge than HT at Brightlingsea...? Or is it an insignificant difference?

thanks!

Does the Rowhedge ferry floating pontoon have a locked gate? It didn't last time I was there. Otherwise, that could be used to transfer crew.

Just found this hopeful info online:

The Rowhedge River Landing Pontoon was installed in 2005 and officially opened in April 2006. Although Rowhedge is fortunate to have quays, the pontoon greatly extends the time of access to and from the river - a boat of 5ft draught can approach the pontoon for about HW ±2½ hrs, and a clean landing can be made with a dinghy about HW ±4hrs. Boats are welcome to moor temporarily, but are normally requested to move onto the quay at HW if they wish to stay overnight. However, if the owner is happy to dry out, they may stay by arrangement with the water bailiff, Jo Brennan, tel. 01206 728764.

The pontoon isn't gated... As far as tide times are concerned, I use the time at West Mersea, which seems very close. Beware at HW at the weekend, if the weather is good, the place will be invaded by the Romford Navy
