Being novices we were never expecting to win anything at all, so our expectations in that respect were matched. We had a fantastic sail and day out and my wife who was one of the crew said we must do that again next year. So on our level that is success.

And dare we ask how you got on against the fin keeled sisterships with their triangular sails?

This year I was in a massive 31 footer ... the over falls out by the Bridge buoy were fairly boisterous ...and might have swallowed up my old Debutante.

Just two of us onboard so there was generally enough to do .. after getting shaken up in the broken water off the Needles I was snoozing along for an hour at 3 knots when it was suggested to me a bit more genoa might be good ... umm .. minutes later we going 1.5 knots faster but I never got a cup of tea ..

Well this is turning out to cost a lot more than the original entry fee! Turns out none other than Ingrid Abery has some stunning pictures of us in the Needles Channel….plus the ubiquitous tankard order ….

This is a pretty mesmerising video too
