You punished yourself! Loch Erribol would have been my choice of target. But south now ...
Is there basic internet reception in Eribol? Not for anything more than getting longer term weather if we are there a few days. I'm on EE by the way.

I assume that there's weather on VHF in there?

We'll always have any essential info downloaded in advance.

Thanks

Lochinver is good for stores, then straight over to Scalpay (watch for the rock in the harbour that is on the direct heading to the pontoon).

Ullapool and Stornoway are both better for a big food shop as they both have a Tesco. The Spar in Lochinver usually runs out of bread in summer as they seem unable to increase their order to compensate for all the grockles around scoffing it all.

Its a few years since I was in there, someone may have more up to date info.

Highly unlikely that you will get internet as little by way of settlements to bring it in and broadcast it.
You may get mobile phone coverage as the main north coast road passes by and one or another of the main companies provide coverage along most of the route. I can not remember which but I used to get good mobile signal for a few miles off the north coast with O2, it would have been off Loch Eribol or Kyle of Tounge.
VHF forecasts from coastguards depends where their repeaters are but coverage is very patchy in the sea lochs all around north and west coasts of Scotland due to the terrain blocking the signal. It was normal to get good VHF reception of CG broadcasts at sea, but loose it once amongst the hills.
Likewise NAVTEX reception was often poor, though much depends on the receiver - Furuno was good, NASA failed to get anything for days at a time and I was running both with the same settings.

Its best to assume that you are on your own when in the area and plan accordingly, then anything you do get is a bonus. Unless, of course, you run to a sat phone and even then the sat signal may be blocked by hills when in the lochs.

The offcom coverage checker is useful and generally pretty accurate. Suggests you should get EE data around Eriboll.
