My genoa roller is I have been told a Rotostay but I can find no makers name upon it. The lower section has become seized but I cannot see how to take it apart
to see what is wrong, seized bearing perhaps? Does anyone out there have any experience of servicing this?
If needed can new bearings be obtained.
Any one have any spares or working parts that I could use.

All information gratefully received.

Paul.

Depends which sort of rotostay it is. When you wind it does the forestay remain fixed, and the foil revolves around it which is normal on smaller boats. Alternavively does the forestay revolve in which case it will have a swivel at top and bottom. When you say it is siezed what exactly do you mean? Wont it revolve? Paul

Hello.
I did a complete overhaul on my model of Rotostay last Saturday. Mine is an FS 40/FS 50 type. where the luff spar rotates around a static forestay. If you have this type then to remove the bearings do the following:-Remove the deck toggle(l/hand thread) Remove the splitpin from the fairlead guide arm ( this is also the locking pin for the forestay section which screws into the forestay adjuster) With the pin out slide off the fairlead guide arm, this will reveal an expandable circlip, remove this, the plastic cap is a push fit. Remove the rope drum by holding the luff spar tack eye with vicegrips and with a strap-wrench around the inner section of the drum turn drum sharply clockwise to unscrew (lefthand thread ). slide the drum down over the forestay adjuster. Inside you will see a lower ballrace plate and an upper ballrace plate and a lot of free ballbearings-- providing this is not the part that has seized-- reassemble giving the bearing a good quantity of bearing grease and this will hold the ballbearings in place too. Hope this gives you a guide for this type. Mike.
