I have a fender rope around my 1953 Navy speed boat. There was a woven rope cover for the first foot or so either side of the prow. I tried getting a local guy to make up a replacement, but he has turned up with a complete bodge. . . the old one was a woven thing which was lashed round the fender rope and he has done a plaited thing which is certainly NOT RN. Has anyone any experience in the weaving/ knitting of such a thing ?
I tried on a frame using just half hitches . . .doesn't look too great, but still better than the £50 new thing . I am quite happy to do it myself if I can get some clues to start with.
After all, I have done everything else myself !

cheers. . .Erik

Fender cover

Thanks . . .I have contacted all sorts of rope suppliers, and am now aware of the goods and bads . . including suppliers who will not send to France !!
At the moment I have decided to knit the cover. . . . .It should look fine. Lots of knitting practice going on ! Hempex , which looked like the solution, now doesn't - UV problems. . .so, I may use 6 mm Polyester double braid in a beige colour. I know it's not the coir original, but should not scream out 'modern' either.
Blimey. . .what a palaver !
