I spray painted my last boat
Lots of coats of hibuild epoxy primer then industrial ( not marine) Imron.
Relatively speaking it was as cheap as chips, mental good finish
Looked a million dollars
Whilst at it I stripped, epoxied and painted the spars too - now that really took things “ to a whole new level”
I have never managed to hand paint anything as well nor as quickly as withspraying and I think you can well end up using more paint but not in a ‘good’ way.
The only saving is masking off and not cleaning the spray equipment I would suggest
With spray you just go round and round building up a fabulous thickness of finish
