only a bit boaty, altho Rolexes are extremely boaty. well, sttinkpotty anyway.

Anyway short story is this: four years ago, bought swmbo a posh watch, put it on the insurance (Chubb) and within 3 weeks a sortof cat burglar broke in and stole just that watch.

recently with watch replaced, we name a different posh watch in a different house: put it on the insurance: 4 wks later burglars broke in, nicked keys and car.

We reported to insurance that they had nicked the watch - but we later found the watch and since the car came back, and the watch not nicked, we sed we won't claim.

Blimmin flip, tonite a v v determineed burglar breaks in by jemmying locked oakframed windows with a chisel and hammer a lot and with alarm blaring on - he searches every room till he finds the rolex. Nothing else nicked.

Chubb insurance, i think you have a mole!

You need to change Insurance Company's sharpish old bean.

In any case, I could never see the point of insuring something like a watch that's worn every day, unless it isn't of course in which case you're kinda stuck. Bit of a bad show really. Can't trust anyone these days.

swmbo has two watches, one waterproof and one not. Cheapish girly rolexes are waterproof, but kept at home. Until now that is. Well, it's still waterproof, but nicked, so irrelevant. Whereas see, i have no watch at all, and guess the time, or feign vast importance and always late or erm early...

Glad I moved away from Kent , All those asylam seekers I guess. You could block up the tunnel Put up barbed wire, electric fences, gun turrets and spot lights, then I spose you may as well stay in the smoke!!!! All IMHO of course!!
Proactive security you need, now I know a man with some rather large grumpy Burmese Pythons, don't take much feeding, don't need walks or nothing, you would be surprised how few visitors you would get, especially if you let people know they roam the place freely and you don't feed them!!!

I have a lovely chinese version of a submariner you can have for a good price. Strap is knackered and I haven't the gall to take it into a jewelers ... "can you fix the strap on my Rolex Submariner"..."Sir, this isn't a Rolex!"..."Damn that bloke in the night market in HK was fibbing!" (He did tell me not to let it get wet though which made me a bit suspicious......)

I'd move if I was you as you evidently live in Moss Side - bad idea with a Max Power Merc on the drive advertising what a worthwhile blag your gaff would be!

and I thought England is quite a nice place after spending 3 months there this year, but now I know why I live where I do. Well there is the weather thing as well. But seriously, that's b****y awful that you've been burgled (burglarized) so many times. You probably feel pretty sick My sympathies.

Re: we had vistors a few hours ago...

do you reckon they were taking a night off from your place?

Started on No2 sons works van on the drive and had the expensive gear that any self respecting plasterer owns and cherishes (mixer/stilts/site radio(?)) then wander down the garden to the big shed at the bottom...........probably got a bit of a shock when No1 son politely asks 'who's there?' when they open door, and scarper. Phone call to house 'was that you dad?' resulted in a quick check round but nothing found and a an hour later No2 son finds the bad news ..........

I am on instruction to immediately fit a more subsantial side gate with razor wire, trip wires on the path and mine the lawn - and I don't think she's joking. HIghlighting that I may have other things planned for the day got a polite reminder of how fast I managed to upgrade things when the boat was targeted...../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: we had vistors a few hours ago...

Seems to be rife at the moment. The pikey's have been at work where I keep the boat on the farm. Had 6 vans away the other night. First I heard of it was a phone call from the farmer in the morning to go and check on the boat
They'd driven thru the gates with a truck taking them off the hinges. Luckily the boat was fine, they were after the caravans.
I gave the farmer a set of my old poacher alerts. Simple bit of kit. A trip wire connects to a firing mech that takes a blank shotgun shell. Wires tripped and the shell goes bang. She's quite happy with them, at least now shes got something that wakes her is she's got intruders. Might be a bit of overkill in a residentual area though........how are the neighbours??

Re: we had vistors a few hours ago...

Contact of mine had a caravan stolen by pikeys over Yoevil way. It was all chained and locked to big concrete blocks and the scum broke the lot. Even if you are lucky enough to find & recognise the van. Your chances of the Bill doing a major raid, for that is what it would need, on an encampment are a bit damn low. But then what do I know. I am just another taxpayer who must be prejudiced.

I like the sound of those poachers alerts. Might be tempted to 'acccidentally' use live rounds though! <g>

Beirut or what???

Where do you guys live and why have you not moved????
Once stayed in a place called Gela in Southern Sicily and this was described as Little Beirut on the internet. Dont believe it was anywhere near as bad as you lot portray of " Little England".

There was a post about Goolge and WMD. You could always try Claymore - as in mines - not the learned gentlemen who was promoted recently.

Re: Beirut or what???

Yes George it was a wonderful place.
Actually spent New Years Day there a couple of years ago.
Of the chopper into town to the "Gela Hilton" about lunchtime. Booked in and said ok where is the restraunt. " Oh we are only open for a private party today"
Still found a wee bar up the street and celibrated the New Year.
