I was watching Rogue Traders on the beeb last night and I thought - why don't we have something like that for the marine industry I reckon there are more cowboys in this game than anywhere else. Just like the heating guys who come round fix soemthing and then charge a fortune and we have no idea whether its bust or not. Anyway, came across this the other day and it may be a solution - http://www.mssa.org.uk/index.php I reckon it can only be grist to the mill and route out the "bad guys" who take our hard earned dosh.

Oh I couldn't agree more, in my first season I sure could have done with some good advice, (didn't know about this place). I had my first engine repaired, it lasted 2 hours, traded it in for a newer one, didn't work at all, they took it back and gave me a crappy little temporary replacement, and then just kept telling me that they were waiting for a part, everytime I spoke to them they called it something else. I admit to being completely ignorant about outboards then, and boy did they capitalise on that. I never got that engine back for the whole of the summer, eventually after starting legal action I finally got it back plus some of the money back. I only found out later that I'd paid about £300 over the odds for it in the first place!!

Maybe there could be a "recommended" list on this site?

it will be limited at the start as the site says, it will take time and support to build the database, so if you have any experiences let the site know. It will help all of us in the future.

Er, whats to stop unscrupulous traders logging onto the site and voting themselves thousands of positive reports?

site is fully moderated so no live posting, it's to protect you and the company being voted on, also there are voting restrictions, visit the site and read the rules etc this will answer most of your questions.

Just come back from taking a guy out on his boat for the first time and see that Solitaire is now out of the water ready for her new engine. So I'll know soon enough, I hope) Are you around over the weekend? Maybe out on Sunday!
