Rocking around a bit today in the marina

Unbelievable: I cannot believe that a marina operator would offer berths in such an exposed position without some form of floating or static breakwater. I shudder to think what the insurance claims will be as a number of the boats seem to be banging together. However, the insurance companies may not pay out as they may state that the boats have been left in an unsafe berth.

Port Solent sent out an email today saying don't visit and don't stay on your boat! Called them to check all ok as we're away and they calmly told me they'd replaced my bowline with two others has the original(s) were down to one strand. Eeek!

Five large fluffy fenders down the starboard side and doubled up lines: I went down after high tide and all was fine.
The bow line was a bit too short, hence the snatching.
Trouble was, by the time I could see that it was too short, it was probably not a great idea to venture onto the pontoon and start untying things in 45-65kts of wind, so I retreated to a safe distance.

I couldn't see any un-fendered boat to boat contact. Most boats had a much smaller boat to one side, or a vacant space. No damage that I could see, other than flapping canvas.

The snatching on that bow line is nasty Dave. Got me worried now.

I have it on good authority that you are berthed next to some incredibly laid back and totally understanding neighbours.

Luckily for us, so are we.....

On a serious note, thinking of going on Sunday to check Hunros over, if so, is there anything you want checking while I am there?

Paul that would be great if you are...thanks. We're gonna try and get down but it's not looking do-able at the moment. I'll PM you my number ok? and likewise, if we CAN get down at some point over the weekend and you can't...give me a shout and I'll check Hunros is tucked up safe and sound.

Hi Dave, I hate to think what it must be like up on 'A' pontoon and pretty bouncy walking down there too I expect. Those are exactly the conditions that snap short breast ropes and caused compression cracks around cleats. I've seen this quite a lot over the past few years and not just at Sparkes. Hope FP's ok. :(

Thanks Roger ... I did inspect FP, but the S28 is much too solidly laid up around the cleats to suffer cracks there :)
Lines were all doubled up, inspected afterwards. No problems I could see, other than that my canopy isn't waterproof, but I knew that already!
