I have the above BBC World service radios, which I have left the batteries in in Greece .on finding the radio with leaking batteries, there is staining inside and out not a lot but the radio will not work
I have tried it to it 240/12v power lead but it still will not come on.

Is there a way of a DIY repair or is it a total write off?

cheers bobt

depends on where the corrosion has reached.

Cotton buds and distilled water are best for cleaning the green crud off the battery area. Don't use acid 'neutralising' agents.

Then dry the radio out in a warm place for a couple of days; a tiny dab of Vaseline onto the battery clip terminal to help ensure good connectivity, then try some decent new batteries.

Best of luck; those are nice little radios.

Thank for the info I have done as you suggested and also used some vinegar and toothbrush and dried it with an hairdryer It is now working .
