I want a quarter sheet of Robbins ply. 1250mm x 610mm x 15mm. Cost about £35 but delivery to Ireland is £30 to the North and a whopping £45 to the republic.

Any cheaper get around that you know of?

£35 for a 1/4 sheet of 15mm ply? thats... errr... their Robbins Elite 1088? If so its big standard marine ply (good quality though) try Travis Perkins (or republic equivalent.)

What about this? " Bruynzeel Marine ply Lloyds 20 year Guarantee " Available locally.

Really what I need is the right grade of plywood for an internal bulkhead. Would a plank of teak do instead?

Local boat builder (wooden boat specialist) is replanking a big converted trawler here, job is outdoors, (in the water with 2000 litres of water in drums on side deck to pull her over) I go by when walking the dog to watch his technique for replacing frames, steam bending 2" thick larch planks etc. He told me he buys his marine ply from Robbins, ordering a batch every few weeks, he says that he trusts anything with a Lloyds stamp on it but he does not buy from Travis Perkins despite the 500 mile difference in delivery distance, agrees Bruynzeel is good but hard to find. International Timber was one possible local source he mentioned.

Pablo, go to your nearest respectable boatbuilder and ask him to sell you what you need or to include it in his next order, he will not be paying £45 a sheet for delivery. Most of these guys are happy to help out, at least around here they are.

I have bought a few sheets of marine ply from Robins over the last 2 years. I had used about 1/2 of one full sheet and was cutting a piece out of remaining half which exposed a de-lamination. It ran for at least 750 mm into the sheet and about 500 mm towards the end. Robbins make a big deal on the quality and reliability and I called them and explained what I found. They asked for an A4 size cut out with the flaw in place which they would send to their manufacturer in Holland. The very next day a full sheet arrived by guaranteed next day delivery, I had not asked for a replacement sheet and they knew the sheet had been half used, also the sheet had been bought the year before. I sent the damaged section down to them. Top customer service.

Robbins take their customer service seriously and stand by their quality claims. I called to thank them and asked if they wanted the remainder of the 1/2 sheet back but they said no, just use what you can from it. I never chased up the failure but visually it looked like a it had been manufactured i.e. glued and pressed but at some stage a middle ply had separated by tearing away. Could it have happened in the delivery van, it was right across the middle where the sheet would bend; who knows!

I can vouch for Robbins quality on all the other sheet products I have bought from them. No connection except as a customer.
