RNLI taxi service for illegal immigrants

..... and if there's a pregnant woman amongst them then, no doubt, a stable would be too good for her. If they only knew how small minded and xenophobic the existing immigrants - Norse, Angles, Picts, Danes, French, Asians, Africans, etc. - are, then they might save themselves the bother.
Merry Xmas !

Those "small minded and xenophobic existing immigrants" are the people who built this nation. Those now arriving should be sent straight back where they came from, and they can go and find some other barely inhabited island for themselves. In any case, under international law, they're supposed to claim asylum in the first safe country they pass through; not the one at the end of the chain, about as far away from their origin as it's possible to get.

And I bet they're going to lose a lot of public support because of it. These illegal immigrants are already in a country of safe refuge, then they put to sea without so much as a lifejacket, and the RNLI selflessly leave their Christmas dinners, and their families, to risk their own lives :disgust:

I am absolutely delighted to here that both RNLI volunteers and coastguard employees are willing to rescue people in trouble at sea on Christmas day. Of course the alternative, which be letting them drown, would be an abhorrent stain against the whole of our society.

To have to be so desperate to give up everything in the hopes of a better life, my heart goes out to them. I'll welcome them here to our shores any day of the week. And I'll drink the health of the brave girls and boys of the RNLI too, and an extra £100 to them to, I think.

Well said. I suppose it's inevitable that one of the forum's most prominent homophobes should also turn out to be a belligerent racist and xenophobe as well.

That's so sad. These people are economic migrants, simply wanting to get their hands on the benefits which UK taxpayers so freely hand out.

What benefits do you think someone landing from a rubber dinghy on the Kent coast is entitled to claim?

So I gather you're happy to see your taxes increased to pay for a never-ending influx of largely-unemployable people?

Overall, migrants provide a fiscal boost to the UK economy. Most are young and work.

What benefits is an illegal immigrant entitled to in the UK?

Illegal immigrants get no benefits whatsoever. Asylum seekers get somewhere to live - usually a hard-to-let property which no-one else wants - and £35.39 per week on a payment card. Anyone here like to try living on £35.39 per week for everything except accommodation?

Lots of great Christmas spirit on this thread. Lots of assumptions and lots of bigotry. I am not a Christian but folks really should ask "what would Jesus do?" at this time of year.

Or maybe just ask "What's a compassionate human response to people willing to risk their own lives to avoid persecution and better themselves?"

Ah, play the "christmas spirit" card! It doesn't matter what time of year it is, there are basic principles of right and wrong; you seem to favour the wrong ones.

Ah you misunderstand me. Agree it does not matter what time of year but there is supposed to be a lot of Christian goodwill about at this time. Desperate folks in peril need help.

I am sure that plenty of opportunities exist in Ireland for the settlement of any picked up mid channel where there are plenty of opportunities for a new life or indeed some of the lesser populated islands of Scotland. Might be a tv program in following their survival on a remote Scottish island , so we should be more accommodating of those who are in such disparate circumstances . The RNLI crews are doing their duty and it's up to the gov to find suitable resettlement lands for these poor people .

Perhaps you are unaware that immigrants contribute more than they take in benefits. Many studies have confirmed this point.

There are some 68.5m dsiplaced people in the world at present, 40m of whom are displaced within their own countries. If you think that the 28.5m are only migrating for economic reasons then you are more insular and blinkered than I thought.

Do you ever reflect that in the lottery of life you drew some lucky numbers? You have the luck to not have been born in one of those hell holes where genocide reigns or where ebola is rife. If you had been and if you had the necessary backbone you would try to find a better life for your family and yourself.

With the way things are going migration will only increase in the years to come. just wait until global warming will make large surfaces of the Earth uninhabitible. Do you think that the peoples living there will conveiently wither on the spot.

The sooner one realizes that migration is here to stay and that one will need to embrace it the sooner one will find a modus vivendi that just might work.

Things can start in a small way eg our church's action at the initiative of the guitarist in our contemporary band.

[Extract from the senior pastor's letter] :

So I am very thankful for the ACP Council voting to approve going forward with 100 Nights of Welcome to provide a safe place to shower and sleep for refugees, from 9 December through 20 March. We are coordinating with the Jesuit Refugee Service with whom we have been in relationship for over a year, and all guests will be recommended to us by JRS. We welcome donations of sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases, and towels, and need volunteers to help with hospitality while our guests are here in the gym (22h00 – 7h00), and to ensure that the linens are cleaned regularly. If you are able to volunteer, please email Daniel Tostado at danieltostado1@gmail.com. We definitely would appreciate your prayers![/QUOTE]

Why exactly is it "up to the government"?

Is it "up to" the UK gov to find homes for every single one of the billions of people in the world who fancy bettering their circumstances at the expense of others?
If the answer is, 'no, not every single one' then, at some point to be urgently discussed, most immigration must be physically prevented.
'Open Borders for all' is a ludicrous, radical pretence not a sane future policy.

Absolutely.

There are quite a few Syrian refugees on the island of Bute. After some initially unwelcoming comments, from what seems to have been a minority, they are now an established and welcomed part of the island community.

Nobody suggests "open borders for all" as a policy and there is no suggestion that the entire displaced and aspirational populations of the world want to come to Britain.

I was an economic migrant.

But, I strongly suspect, you migrated legally.

The RNLI are not a political organisation. They must rescue those in need of rescue whatever the circumstances, and let the other Government organisations do their jobs.

We have had persecution in our fair Island, causing migration by some groups.

Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world. The countries the refugees are coming from need fixing so there is the incentive to stay with the prospect of a future.

Don't ask me how that can be achieved-better minds than mine have tried-and so far failed.

Some 40 illegal immigrants have successfully crossed the English Channel, this week alone. ( Just counting the ones we know about.)

Why isn't the chief of the UK Border Force all over the news, explaining why he should be allowed to keep his job? He would be better employed as a greeter at Tescos.

Forty? A whole forty? In one week? At that rate the UK population will be doubled in only thirty two thousand years. Everybody panic!
