A large part of which is down to geographical and planning constraints at the site.

It's a bit more than a "boat shed".

If the RNLI received the same amount as the French do from the authorities it would represent about 2% of its income.

Utterly irrelevant - it's the %age of the SNSM's budget that matters, not that of an unrelated organisation.

Not really, the words "chartity" and "scandal" have assumed a high degree of correlation in the minds of many following the British news digest in the past year.

To those of us taking a wholeistic view of this debate it is not "Utterly irrelevant" it is actually the central and most distinguishing fact.

I forget what is the ratio for the annual budgets of the RNLI and French equivalent 10:1, 20:1 or 100:1?
 
I take great comfort in these threads, Sybarite and Jonjo5 expend all their energy fiercely criticising the minutiae of boathouse design and lifeboat hull form. But they do it on a little Internet forum with the same 20 or so of us disagreeing with them; which effectively means that we soak up their energy and criticism and it never reaches the light of a real world day. One day I may have to call out the RNLI, I want them to set out in a ridiculously over equipped boat that protects and Molly coddles the volunteers, and I want it to be stored in a state of the art boathouse with every facility known to the SAR world.

Having worked in the NHS I'm familiar with the consequences of under funding and I can assure you it costs many lives. How refreshing to be relying on a service that asks "what's the best we can afford?" rather than "how little can we get away with?"

Yup, old Wyle-E-Sybarite will no doubt soon be along with yet another Acme anti-RNLI Rocket fizzing away on his back.

What will he hit next: Steam Train Tranona, or perhaps that cliff above the RNLI's new boathouse? At least we know the ending though, "Beep, beep ...................." ;)

Well I couldn't resist trying so here's the results:

No results. Nada. Nil. Zilch. Sweet FA.

But it gets better, just the words themselves rather than a phrase brings up these in order on the search page:

1. An encouragement to give your money to the RNLI rather than squandering it
2. A link to Sybarite on YBW four years ago
3. A story about innovative cost cutting measures at the RNLI
4. The story of multiple rescues by the RNLI of a Captain Calamity

So my research shows that you either get great stories about the RNLI or a four year old post by Syb. Honestly you couldn't make it up :D

I personally would not be so keen to demonstrate my inability to use Google when provided with a search suggestion.

And then you go on to contradict yourself because without further input from you Google figured out the intent of your search.

Now which link would the enquiring mind click on? Hint: I have provided a clue.

The YBW forum link leads to the largest critical thread on the RLNI I have seen on YBW, 75 pages with +700 posts which must represent the most damaging and informed critque of the RNLI available in the public domain. This is a stunning example of the power of Google and the damage your type of support is inflicting on the RNLI.

After digesting those 700 posts what would the enquiring mind do next? Try searching Google for 'RNLI ybw forum'.

I'd venture to suggest that an enquiring mind wouldn't digest 700 posts on an Internet forum, it might lead to mental constipation.

Meanwhile I want more stories of lavishly equipped boathouses and needlessly over speccd lifeboats please, they're good news stories and I love 'em.
