I now have a beta version of the free River Thames Guide for Android devices (includes all the functionality of the iPhone/iPad version seen here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/river-thames-guide/id617269104?mt=8). When ready the App will be available in the Amazon Marketplace (but suitable for all Android devices). Because the App is quite large (it is self contained with full River Thames maps so does not require an Internet connection) there are limitations as to my options for testing (for this that might be interested: the Amazon developer provides the environment for packaging and testing mobile web apps in a very easy-to-use manner; unfortunately, the on-line testing is limited to apps less than 100 MB in size).

I am looking for a couple of volunteers to test the App on some form of Android tablet (preferably, but not essentially, an Amazon device); in particular the mapping features need to be explored.

Anyone prepared to do this testing please let me know an email address for the invite (will come from Amazon) and the device to be used.

Hopefully, a fully operational Android version will be available for the 2015 season...

Hi,
I would be happy to test on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.2, will PM you my email address
I don't think that I will be doing any long distance trips until next year now though

A big thanks to all the volunteers to date. Probably now have sufficient in terms both of number and variety of devices; so, no more volunteers please!

The latest update: I am just waiting for the test version to be verified and then hosted by Amazon; once that is done the volunteers will receive an email with a link to download and install the app to their device. Hopefully I will then get lots of positive feedback so, as soon as I am happy that it works on a mixture of Android devices, it will be made available for anyone to download (please note: for all sorts of technical reasons it will only be available via Amazon but WILL work on any Android device).

Meanwhile, suggestions for new features for 2015 welcome...

I've written to the kind volunteers who supplied a personal email address just to explain a slight delay. But, with most boats out-of-the-water until spring, there is plenty of time to get the Android version working!
