We are going to Rouen to have a look at the possibility of buying and mooring a motorboat there. We intend to spend chunks of time cruising and living on the inland waterways and maybe end up in the Med. Bit vague I know but can anyone suggest pitfalls and plusses please.

Thanks

Interesting!
I have a germ of an idea and it is similar to yours.
My thinking is that it might be a way to aclimatise Dearheart to the water.
After that, of course the world is our oyster.
It is , however, a two year plan.
Maybe a week or so in a hire boat first, say well down the Midi
Followed by another Caribean or Adriatic S*ns**l or similar
Please help me or it may be motor caravan or worse!

Regards Briani

sounds an excellent idea, couple of years ago we motored down through holland ,belgium and france to the med took two months . we are now thinking of doing similar trips but taking two years (or maybe longer)rather than two months to do the trip.
canals are delightful ,stress-free ,cheap and almost infinite if you have right boat.
Next year we will sell sailing boat and look for steel dutch powerboat or mini (15-25M peniche )

The Seine between Honfleur and Rouen is no easy option. Lots of current (flow and ebb) and ships and wash and possible thick fog and nowhere much to stop between the two. Rouen is OK (for an important town) and above Rouen the Seine gets delightful.

Checkout our website (Poole to the Med via France).
