River police evict 17 boats

I went past the site of the 'evicted' boats last night:
- bags of rubbish deposited along the bank
- various bicycles tied to trees
- Large group of people having a BBQ, who felt obliged to shout at me. Childish really.
- as many boats as ever

Presume you are referring to the congregation just above Teddington Lock Cut ? I believe the "eviction" was at the Thames Water treatment works at Hampton further up river above Molesey Lock.
 
Just completed a run from Sonning to Teddington and back.
I am sure EA are trying to evict itinerants but my impression is that they are failing miserably.
I have never seen so many in so many different locations.
 
I agree. I recognised a number of the Hampton squatters boats less than a mile from where they were 'removed'. Some are at Walton, others have joined the heap of boats at Garrick Lawns, now totalling 15.

Teddington to Walton seems the worst affected part of the non tidal Thames, mooring anywhere is becoming a pain, I don't know wether to blame the beuracrats or the freeloaders.

Just moving them on seems pointless if they can move a few hundred yards away, why are they not excluded from mooring in a specified zone for a period of time after being caught? Or would that affect their 'human rights'?

Police the new bullies for the Council, which is wrong. they are to serve and protect not enforce some bylaw that stops ordinary lower income and underprivileged people from living. I expect its about tax!
 
We moor up in Teddington lock cut during our annual pilgrimage to the upper Thames. The craft moored at the western end have made walking past of concern due to their "traveller" living style. Last year we were one of three craft burgled/entered by persons unknown. It's easy to apportion blame to residents of these boats but it is a towpath and regularly used by walkers and cyclists alike. no the incidents weren't reported to the police as one left early the next morning and the other two including myself felt we were probably wasting our time. I also realise this is another incident not included in the crime stats for the area.
 
where on earth are people supposed to live ?

not every one has £50 k a year to live on, perhaps if more houses were built allowing normal people from the bread queue to have a real home there might not be so many ugly pheasants to look at
I do find it strange how in this country so many rich people complain about the pheasants
The government allowed hundreds of thousands of people from abroad to come here to work thus keeping the wages bill low for the wealthy employers yet those wealthy decision makers are not in the bread queue meaning they don't struggle to survive with a low income poor health service ( because its unable to cope) no social housing and no prospects
I wonder how you would cope in the shoes of people with nothing

I find it offensive that you jest about the hardships people like me have suffered. I can recall mater having to shop at Harrods because Fortnum & Mason's were charging way too much for their Quails Eggs. My brother having to wear shoes made by Churchs because we couldn't afford Stan Vartholemeu prices, I shudder at the thought of our Crew having the Blazers made by Harry Wiseman because we couldn't afford Sammy Arkus.

That rather a lot,most of us manage on 1 Kilo and cut with some Vim or something....
and its rather hard to find old fashioned razor blades and ....Oooo....wrong forum.Thought we were on

You miss the point. People are more offended by the horrid mess and damage these pond life cause. It doesn't cost anything to stick a broom in the water, scrub the boat once a week, take your rubbish and dispose of is sensibly, stop emptying your **** into the River, smarten yourself up instead of smoking and drinking most of the day.....

The list goes on, but for some reason you think it's the Governments fault?

They have nothing because they can't be bothered to get out of bed in the morning and graft....

They're not all layabouts, quite a few of them go off to work in the morning or log in from their floating office. That type are 'freegans' and they're so clever they've found a loophole while the rest of us pay mooring fees and try to find somewhere to stop the night. None pay council tax which supplies the services they get for nothing.
