Thames at Henley seems to have peaked now, should start going down soon, all upstream gauges also flat lined and some dropping. Bit of rain forecast on Thursday but shouldn't be enough to make a difference
That's great! The Water Co's can top up all the missing pollutants and no-one will notice. Not that the 'Authorities' are even looking! There are a number of grooves cut into the wall of a lock building at Allington.
The highest one is about 5ft above the footpath.
Can remember when it was not unknown for the river level to be to the top of the arches under Maidstone Bridge.
Seem also to recall that at one time, years ago ,they had a choice, flood Yalding or Maidstone.
This led to much acrimony between the two locations.
The one up side, it has certainly cleared all the rubbish out of the river and perhaps hopefully has flushed out some of the pollution and toxic waste from the gravels on the river bed.
