Its been up for sale at Essex for a few months and they usually have a quick turn over of boats so maybe its not so good in the flesh!

A survey saved me 19K, so that'll be the first thing that I'll buy! Didn't know its been there that long. I'll mull it over and maybe go have a look.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

There used to be one of these at Cobbs Quay, certainly up until last year.It might be worth talking to the owner and finding out about the various pitfalls of owning a 27 year old Italian scrapper.

What is it with you lot, you whinge on about the price of parts, servicing, running costs etc, and then talk about buying something like this.

Have you ever looked at one of these, two petrol engines certainly past their best, together with probably the most complicated wiring system ever fitted to a boat, and your encouraging the guy to buy it.

Still, I guess it will give a good topic of conversation through the winter months.

I'm not sure that a 27 year old english scrapper would be much better than an italian one...
Apart from this, I agree with you.
I'd never recommend such purchase to anyone looking for an easy toy to enjoy the beauty of convenient, trouble-free boating.
With these things, one has to be prepared to spend time and money on them.
On the other hand, many people is happy just owning what they consider beautiful things, regardless of if/how well they work.
It happens with cars, bikes, you name it.
With boats (and Rivas particularly), it happens even more often.
Nothing wrong with that IMHO, as long as anyone is pleased by his own preferences/choices.

The wiring system - I must agree with, but i doubt the engines will be past their best

.... and I'd rather have an classic stylish, 'ahem' italian scrapper over a production line, could-be-anything-til-you-see-the-makers-badge boat any day

The picture doesn't tell the whole story unfortunatly. On the whole its solid, the scratch, well a bit more then a scratch, is purely cosmetic. I reckon with a fair bit spent on it and it would be a tidy boat. Spend loads on it and it'll be a very nice example.

Yeah! I know its running rough, but your lucky its running at all!!
