RIP Percy Blandford.

It's all a bit mad, so shame on the MODS for being so heavy. There is no real marketing gong on, just a run of 500 just o bring to print what he had written. I've got the book and it's lovely, easily obtained by an e-mail. But then again I am a fan, when I left school I found his design for a Lysander in a book (which I achieved a couple of years later) and thought that's what I wanted to build. Never had the space time or money when I was younger and now regret it.
I say good luck to Diane and I hope the MODS see some common sense and lift the ban.

Perhaps the Mod that intervened is a graduate trainee that as yet doesn't know their aris from their elbow?
 
I had a Lysander in the 70’s, and still return to the owners group site, I think it’s the simplicity
of the design and rig that made it so attractive and usable for a novice. Agree with the sentiments here regarding the book.
 
We should be careful we do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. A wrong decision has been made, IMHO, but there is danger of a witch hunt going on here. Some of the comments on this thread and others about people 'advertising' on here are not helpful, I enjoy the videos produced by our fellow forumites and they offer a real contribution, long may they continue. If people do not want to watch the videos, don't click on the thread.

I look in here occasionally but rarely post now because of the actions of the Mods and FAT. Probably my loss and I doubt I am missed.

But this smacks of incompetence at best. At worst? Who knows. A "labour of love" publication to remember a well respected family member which is highly unlikely to turn a significant profit and possibly to make a loss results in a post been deleted and a ban? Yet many forum members "push" their for profit websites and/or services and can carry on doing so? Is hypocrisy the right word to describe this? Much has been made of the same rules for all. It doesn't seem to have been applied here. It seems some can and some can't advertise. And the YBW team wonder why some members have issues.

And before anyone passes comment. I like the diversity of the forums, people (whether commercial or not) posting links to their websites and videos etc. It all adds to the general availability of knowledge and information on here. But the rules need applying fairly. In this case they have not been. Either allow commercial activity or ban it all. And apply it to all.
 
A quick check shows MrsFruFru (who Carole says is her sister) made half a dozen duplicate posts in various places promoting the book. I've pm'd Carole explaining that YBW turn a blind eye to some advertising but multiple posts from a new user promoting a book aren't very clever and will fall foul of the system. I've also suggested that if this is her sister, then I've explained what she might do to sort things out. As it stands, Mike (FAT) quite reasonably suspects its publisher promotional spam.
