We should be careful we do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. A wrong decision has been made, IMHO, but there is danger of a witch hunt going on here. Some of the comments on this thread and others about people 'advertising' on here are not helpful, I enjoy the videos produced by our fellow forumites and they offer a real contribution, long may they continue. If people do not want to watch the videos, don't click on the thread.

when John asked me for clarification about this situation, I was careful to point out that most if not all members welcome the businesses that are on the forums, all good info and of interest - I know you and I are not the only people to think that.

Diane Naested I thank ALL of you for your words of support on the MOST ridiculous situation!
As with ALL my posts/emails to various contacts re Gramps book I want to shout about it from the roof tops...and why wouldn't I?! Each and everyone I have written to has been as excited about Gramps book as I have and have been very enthusiastic about promoting it.

IF YBW had read my post re Gramps book, properly, without jumping to conclusions they would have read a post from a very proud Granddaughter, announcing that the long awaited autobiography of one Percy Blandford has, at last been published! This was directed at the thread whom people wrote on when Gramp passed away.

This is NOT a profit earning project, simply a life story of our wonderful Gramp that me and my sister funded to share with you.

I might suggest that YBW contact ME and not my sister if they want to admit they were a little insensitive, I mean hasty!

just received Email disgusted that they are questioning that Diane is my sister not only have we had to deal with the loss of our Gramp we are now having to deal with insensitive behaviour from the foruDear Carol

I'm one of the moderators on the YBW forums and I note the fuss generated over the deletion of a new user 'MrsFruFru' who you say is your sister.

The professional moderator noted this person had made half a dozen duplicate posts promoting a book and this isn't allowed. In theory YBW prohibit all advertising but in practice turn a blind eye to some links. Making multiple posts isn't very subtle and he acted quickly.

He also tells me that he's not heard any protest or questioning from the said person. If this is your sister and she could find a moment to write to Mike who is 'Forum Admin Team' via the YBW feedback link (pm me back if you can't find it) then perhaps they can be unbanned and a suitable subtle promotion allowed?

You are quite correct. She has cut and pasted my private message to her.

I regret that she is 'disgusted' by my message to her. I am now at a loss as to how to proceed. I thought my message was reasonable and conciliatory and explained how what's has happened has happened. Internet forums are anonymous places and I hope that Carole and her sister might see that everyone and everything cannot always be taken at face value. I quite understand why they should want to shout their grandfathers achievements from the roof tops but I hope they also might see how such behaviour from a new poster rings alarm bells as it's exactly the same sort of behaviour forums like this get hit with on an almost daily basis from commercial spammers.

If Carole's sister would like to get in touch I hope something can be done, but the ball is very much in her court and protesting so long and loud is not helping. If she has emailed and it's been returned then there must have been a mistake in the address she used. If she pm's me I can pass on a working email address.

I'm only a volunteer and can't speak for Timd inc, but I do know that Time Inc turns a blind eye to a lot of 'advertising' and people ought to realise that they need to be careful about pushing the boundaries. I'm sure this not for profit book doesn't push too many boundaries at all and this sorry mess can be resolved but the way it was being promoted with multiple posts didn't help.

I do think the ' if you really are her sister ' was a bit OTT though, you'd asked me the situation and I had named both sister grandaughters of Percy Blandford.

You might be right, although Mike (who works on lots of forums) is extremely sceptical and perhaps influenced my scepticism. I've got access to all the posts that were made and it was his suggestion that I read through them all. It does have all the hallmarks of a professional scammer which is a great pity if it's a complete mistake. My apologies if I was unduly cynical. Hopefully Carole will get in touch and we can speak to her sister and sort things out.

I have read JM's post carefully (within AuntPeg44's) and there is nothing to take offence at within it IMHO - it is a straightforward attempt to open a three-way dialogue by contacting one of two supposedly-connected people.

I agree with what Seajet has writen.
Percy Blanfords realtions are very upset, I can see now why this was all done but it would be nice if somebody could just send another e-mail to try and diffuse the situation. Sometimes when we mistype e-mail addresses when we are in a hurry, it is hard to notice this and think we don't get a response.
I don't think anybody wants to cause any real upset -please try and make everybody happy. In the words of a beauty contestant - believe in world peace, all work together to sort out problems

....And a side effect is that this thread, instead of celebrating a wonderful contribution to sailing and the two granddaughters who encouraged him to write the story down, we have once again been sidetracked into tedious matters of bureaucracy and ego-protection. I mean fair enough in the Lounge where participants seem to enjoy such argy bargy, but here?

Firstly, I'm quite happy to acknowledge that I get it wrong sometimes.

(And I've no desire to clog this place with such matters; the only reason I've put some of the feedback on here was to try and show that something (hopefully) sensible was being done after people jumped on a bandwagon of assumptions about management and mess..)
