Re: Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

LJS , Blooming marvellous H1 been back a day and look what happens .I happened to see Janes original post . It was clearly written by someone who had a genuine request , there was no hint of a p*** take at all .She did apoligise if she was being rude or naive in asking if H1 was for real (not unreasonable from a new comer ) . Check out her previous posts ,all of them appear to be from someone who had a genuine interest in her boat and IMHO only joined the forum to seek technical advice . What did she get?? Her genuine post "pulled " and a critism from Kim . What have we lost?? someone who was struggling to get her boat together in a male dominated area with , I suspect , little money !

HAPPY CHRISTMAS JANE DONT GIVE UP THE BOAT!!

Terry

Cant help agreeing with some of her comments in her farewell post .

Dear Lady Jane,
Firstly you are not the first, and won't be the last, to question the existence of Happy1. In fact a 'spot Happy1 in disguise' game has also been in existence for many months as well; such is his fame.
Secondly I fail to understand your linking of 'the weaker sex' and the want or tolllerance for newbies. Both groups, and indeed any other that partakes in a love of boating, in whatever form, are both welcome and will find these forums there to assist. I personally wish I had discovered them earlier in my boating career - both for the advice and hlb's stories.
I hope you will reconsider...............

Hi lady_jane. Newbies are wanted, tolerated, and needed. DON'T GO!! I have been a member for a while. I visit often to read and often learn about motorboating. There is a bit of a clique atmosphere, but as far as I can see, nobody is excluded. There is some history to the Happy1 thing, and I have questioned his existence, as have many others- particularly when he was 'new' and seemed to ask "daft" questions from a well researched and informed background. It seemed that he was a stooge used to stimulate discussion to me, but we were proved wrong and reassured by Kim too.
I don't post often because it's a bit like intruding at times, but if I think about it, I'd say 'get stuck in with the discussion, humour, and don't take things to heart.' I was flamed as a newbie, and it put me off in a big way, but hang in there, it's (usually) worth it. And besides we actually do appreciate the presence and contributions of the fairer sex.
Howard

Lady_jane,

I'm sorry if I'm being a pedant, but I have a lousy cold and am abit grumpy at the mo, but didn't you say you weren't going to use the ybw forums before <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=ym&Number=439774&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=lady_jane&Match=Username&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=439215> here </A>???

I'm afraid that you will find the same sort of irrelevence, cheeky gags and diverse opinions where ever you look; whether that be on the marina, in a yard, in a sailing/yacht club or wherever, its life.... I rejoice in the relative freedom of speech in this arena, and i think Kim does a SPLENDID JOB considering that this is an extention of a corporate website.

Don't get oversensitive to people who mean no harm, ignore those who do, and "take a chill pill". If you DO get upset and offended by off topic comments and such like, I would advise that the world wide web is not for you.

Have a happy christmas, and good luck with restoring your boat.

Re "Didnt you say you werent going to use the YBW forums before " I think she said that because her thread (incidently her 1st on these forums) was a request for technical advice .(which she genuinely appeared to need as her subsequent posts refers) was "Hi jacked" and a load of useless(to her) drivel was posted. As I'v already posted on this thread I think she has a passion for her boat and was not into idle chit chat (maybe she was a bit cautious in a male dominated forum) .She did seem to open up a bit when Powerskipper posted back abit and I think she tried to get into the spirit of the forum .Till now. all IMHO of course.
Shame but there we go .

HOW do you know this person is femail? There seems to a lot of trust on here, unfortunately some people use and exploit this for their own ends.

Anyway Have a very Merry Xmas and a Happy /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif New Year,

What is all this fawning over a departing new forumite? Would it create such a stir if it was Sir_Bill instead of Lady_Jane (and maybe he/she is actually a Sir, who knows?)?

Sad to see anyone leave, male, female or in between but I do not recall such consternation about the apparant departure of such long standing members as Sir_Byron (sad day for sure), etc who are perhaps much more deserving of a universal weep and naval gaze.

Yea , take your point .Its just the way in which she IMHO she was treated which led to her demise on the forum . Re your comments (and maybe he/sheis actually a sir, who knows?) someone once said "The internet is a place where men are men and half the women are too!!" Joking apart I don't think there is much to be gained from that on these sort of forums is there? I just think maybe she was too sensitive and couldn't handle the flak/banter.

Don\'t go!!

Hi Jane

Hope you reconsider, just a bit unfortunate that you got caught up in a very long standing "Happy thing", I only entered the forum in April this year, fortunately I'd been "lurking" a while and had kinda got the gist of some of the stuff. At first I thought, "and they think we can bitch", but futher reading revealed it was alot of banter and tongue in cheek back chat.

There's too few of us (not the weaker sex I hasten to add) on here to go so quickly, give it another chance and I promise you won't regret it. I have had some brilliant advice and fantastic support from all the forum, I've met some (including Happy - he's real!) and I've liked them all.

Give as good as you get girl!!!

Yes, and as long as we are allowed to continue to play different (but not offensive) tunes on our trumpets the forum will remain the interesting place it is.
