We're right along with you jerrycat. We bought ours in December and replaced the rigging as no-one could prove the age. Forestay in furling drum was on its way out. We were told by a fellow yachtie, one with a beard, exuding the confidence that can only come with bullshit honed to perfection by years of practice, that the the forestay could not be removed from the furling drum as it was a sealed unit! We avoid the proximity of his boat. Others are amazed to find out we put the rope in the washing machine our hands are clean when we finish sailing and we are happy to know the rigging is new and not some thing that was imposed by the insurance world, who have been v. good with us.

I bought my boat last autumn whilst it was still laid up ashore. The surveyor recommended dropping the mast for a thorough inspection which I did(for my own peace of mind as well). I carefully inspected each fitting, and all the turnbuckles. The only faults I could find was the backstay turnbuckle needed replacing as the threads had distorted and looked like 'buttress' threads as on a wood working vice. I also took the opportunity to rewire the lights, replace the steaming/deck light and replace the boots on the ends of the spreaders, and replace all the lamps with new. The rigging had all been replaced seven years earlier.
