I have a friend with a 20-22ft RIB in the Med...lovely boat and all that but he wants something that can go faster when the weather picks up.

We're not talking gale force but in Greece with a little Meltemi the waves can make for an awkward ride at times.

Being a Greek chap he doesn't want to throttle back of course. Anyway he says he needs a longer RIB so he doesn't plough into the back of waves...more skip along from crest to crest...I say he needs a deeper V hull.

What's the answer (maybe both!!) and if it's the deeper V option who can recommend a manufacturer of deeper V RIBS (without spending £140k like in this month's MBY!!!)

Cheers

What has he got at the moment?

The following might suit
Revenger 25/27/29
Scorpion 7.5m
Phantom Evolution
Ex military arctic 28 - indestructable
Gemini 7.3 / 8.4m - used by various special forces

Some of the guys on rib.net may be able to help.

What sort of RIB does he have at present. For safe and comfortable "wave skipping" you need both a long hull (particularly for short steep seas such as the Solent or off the East Coast.) plus a decent Deep V. So what he needs is a serious offshore RIB as opposed to a leisure variant. (Decent jockey seats are also preferred to bench seats and compressed spines!). Best built and finished RIBS in UK IMHO are Scorpions. (Done lots of cruising a 9.5m one and own a 7.5m Scorpion.) They are also built under licence by ribco in Greece which might help.

For all things ribby as suggested he might try the rib.net forum.
