The harbour of Rhyl has been rejuvenated. A new cycle bridge has been built and on the back of that a new slip, pontoons and storage yard have been built.
I was there today, the new HM is Arthur Davies, tel 01824 708400. Lift outs are at £10 a metre, half the price of some other places here in N Wales. Winter storage will be very competitive as well.
They had just launched a 40ft Jeanneau this morning before I got there.
The channel has been dredged to 1.5mtrs and it is all looking good. Rhyl is on the up and up, we have spent millions there and this morning it was magnificent in the sunshine!

Hi Stu.
I know you have a big input in the investment in Rhyl and hope it attracts some new Yachties. The Venturers are planning a cruise along the N West coast and maybe they could be attracted to drop in?

What depth is available at low tide at the pontoons?

I have a natural aversion to Rhyl since it developed a reputation for being the Epicentre for costa del dole. Maybe this is an opportunity to break the steady decline of a superb North West Resort.

give Arthur a bell for the definitive. Its all change there now, all the old grot hotels have been demolished or restored, there is a new developer doing the old fairground site. Its fair to say its on its way!

That lifting bridge is a right PITA, way too sloooooow. Talk about over-engineered to carry pedestrians and bikes. I waited 25 minutes for a single fishing vessel to pass through. Why I don't know - there's nothing on the other side. Takes about 5 mins for the same operation at Caernarfon. Can't say I noticed any improvement in town and I'll still be heading for the visitor moorings at Rhos in preference.

The bridge was the key to the whole project. SUSTRANS came along, wanted the bridge to connect the coastal bike path. The bridge in Caernarfon is about half the size of this one in Rhyl. Just one span instead of two. When the project is finished it will have completely renovated the whole area. The harbour has been brought in to the 21st century! The work boats from the windfarms are starting to use it now, another part of the rejuvenation of Rhyl!

You were ripped off! £200 just to lift out a 10m boat! I pay £ 50 in s wales

Not quite, £120 for an 8 metre boat. AFAIR almost exactly the same at Milford Haven. Even though Cecilia has virtually no keel and only draws about 60 cm it took two men well over an hour to get her settled ashore, handled with great care and professionalism. I thought the price reasonable for the time it took.

Exactly, yet masted vessels still pass without issue so why the behemoth at Rhyl? Someone had a budget and they were going to spend it, come what may? A cycling gantry alongside the old bridge would have been a better solution.

I wonder how long it will be before the "visitor" pontoons are permanently occuppied by local boats?

English tax payers no doubt the source.

Why do peeps always have to do a tooth sucking knock! A run down silted up harbour, money from europe and the lottery and the tax payers of Denbighshire and Wales did it. It is now a modern, dredged fully kitted out harbour. The rejuvenation of Rhyl continues. The West end of Rhyl was the most deprived ward in Wales. It is now being transformed.
The harbour is already attracting the workboats servicing the offshore windfarms. There is another one, twice the size, being constructed north west of Anglesey called Rhiannon. The service industry needs a base, why cant Rhyl be it? If we left it to the toothsuckers and cynics of this world nothing would ever get done, deprived wards would continue to be deprived! As it is now, the scruffy run down hotels on the front have been rejuvenated, the scruffy fairground has gone, an application for a supermarket and hotel is on the way and we have a brand new harbour attracting people already. All this means jobs and new hope for people, it also means an offshore service sector that can crate jobs as well! So go and suck your teeth!

Great - was not a fun entrance last time I was there (15 years ago, blimey!) the only downside as I see it is another pesky offshore wind farm on its way, where's that gong to be then?

Well said, I've never seen a harbour rejuvenation greeted with such dour criticism.

What I would say is that it was government policies and actions that ruined the town in the first place. It was used as a dumping ground for drug addicts and criminals from NW England. Courts were ordering people out of Cheshire to Rhyl.
It's great that the harbour is being improved but it should have happened 50 years ago.

I never thought I'd find myself agreeing with you on anything but on this I do - 100%! There seems to be an in-built opposition to any new civic works in this country.
