reverse osmosis water purifier

I emailed them about another of their reverse osmosis products - they said it would remove salt upto the normal levels found in domestic water, but was not designed to remove the high levels of salt found in sea water.

I assume your eyes lit up like mine when you thought you'd found a 'watermaker' for that price!

Well, if it removes 99% of sodium, and 99% of chloride, it should be able to cope with salt!!
But the "typical" results are based on the treatment of mains water - bet it wouldn't get 99% of bacteria out of ditchwater, nor 99% of salt out of seawater

The choice of membrane and pressure are different for different salinities. Most of these under-sink units are designed for fresh potable water inlet, some are rated for near-brackish well water. I think you'll find that if you try to run it with sea water it will just fail to pump.

When I run my Spectra watermaker with fresh water (when flushing) I get a fair flow through the membrane with minimum pressure - at that setting it wouldn't function at all when drawing sea water.

By the way, these things are very common here in Spain and you can get them from €99!
