Hi folks. After a few years at the coast, the Thames is calling me back! I am preparing to bring the boat up before Easter next year and so I'm going through the list of things that need doing. (Usual stuff like changing anodes, new anti-foul etc.) What I will need is a boat safety certificate (the boat has had one in the past so hopefully it won't be too much of a drama). Can anyone recomend a good examiner? Also, if anyone has a suggestion for a small-boat transportation firm I'd be grateful. My boat is 25ft long.

I must say I have missed the Thames as well as the friendly boaters and I look forward to meeting new friends next year, as well as contributing to this forum. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I found Dave Wolff Transportation (07659 550131) very competitive and efficient, no connection, just a satisfied punter. Still cant recommend a BSS examiner

John’s no longer an examiner. It’s also possible that having the examination done out where the boat is lying might be easier. To find examiners based in the locality, click on appropriate county the interactive map on the BSS website here (http://www.boatsafetyscheme.com/site/SearchforanExaminer_210.asp)

By following the links on the website to the Essential Guide 2005 you can also find a full list of items that are now checked and how they are checked. A read through can also indicate where any potential preparatory work may be needed.

HTH, kind regards

EDIT - beaten to the draw I see

Nope as far as I am aware the yard (at ferry road) is still going and the Tough family home is still on the river where his boat it, in fact I can see it from my window!

Glad I got my BSS done just before he packed up doing it !!!

Just had a word with him and he is still doing surveys but the yard at Ferry Lane has been out of it for some years now although they continued to have an office there until a couple of years ago. In the latter years they used Swan Island for actual boat work but have ceased that as well.
