Having now used Amadeus-M for 12 months, incorporating;
Wonderful return trip from Southampton to Sonning.
May trip to Dunkirk for Evacuation anniversary.
Season on the non-tidal Thames, inc' 10 day trip to St Kat's;
we have returned the boat to Broom Boats (separate from CJ Broom, the boatbuilding subsidiary in administration) for winter work. I had a long chat with Andrew Stone and Colin Boast and received their assurances that the rest of the Broom operations were running normally and profitable. The only precaution I have taken is to secure a letter from the Administrator acknowledging no claim over my boat whilst with Broom.
Why back to Broom?
2 jobs relate to carpentry and the addition of items that were originally "options" when new and they have the drawings and will ensure that they blend with the existing interior as seamlessly as possible.
The other work is a combination or s/s work and mechanical and quite honestly, the sheer convenience of having it all done by the one company wins out over the cost of transport.

Swimbo and I have been delighted with the boat and instead of my usual impetuous way of buying a boat and diving straight in with refurb' work, holding back for a season is saving us a fortune. Many of the jobs we 1st thought of having done we have now either deferred or cancelled as unnecessary.
The Broom staff are super people to deal with and whilst probably not the cheapest I do feel that a good job will be done which rates with me as excellent "value for money".

Hope it goes well for you Mike. We had similar advice with our boat - wait a year before you embark on major changes. Overall just meant we made more changes but you had a better idea of what you needed to change and what was ok as it was.

You're so filthy rich you can afford to ship your boat back to Brooms to get jobs done. Poor old Pensioners like me Tony, Pheran and others can't even afford new Clerestory Bags.

Confusion is really beginning to set in, now, isn't it Byron? Maybe these new drugs they've just decided should be made available might help - perhaps a visit to the local vet?

I am advised by SWMBO that the word you probably meant to use is not often heard in polite circles, but a little research reveals that there is indeed a word 'Clerestory" and we even have articles so described in Boatone Mansions. I hope this throws a little illumination onto the more lowly members who are, as you say, unable to consider such expensive pursuits as returning boats whence they came for remedial attention.

Of course, those of us that berth in MDL marinas enjoy the luxury of extremely competitive craneage at PH and elsewhere as part of our Club Outlook benefits :D

Oi you lot - leave my friend Mike alone. He may be filthy rich but he doesn't forget the less well-off. He even gave me the skin off his rice pudding once! :)

What a lovely Malapropism! Without missing what you really meant.

It conjures visions of Cathedrals' upper works festooned with plastic bags.

Oh well, others have brought this thread down with a bump, or perhaps I should say, with a squelch.....

Interesting as Byron's medical condition might be to some ...................!!!

Filthy rich or not ........! (definitely ... or not!)
As Pheran said, I don't forget my mates!

Seriously. When you are in the market to spend serious money on work, the additional cost of transport is just one factor.
The most important factor to me (and I hope I don't regret saying this later) is that all jobs will be done by Broom with the associated expectation of high standard, rather than employing separate individuals or companies for each skill, thus reducing the hassle to me in dealing with multiple suppliers who, from past experience, do not have a reputation for 1st class performance.
