on the 25th of august this year,i had my car stolen and in the boot was my inflatable dinghy and 4 h/p outboard,i kept checking e/bay, loot, and quids in looking for them but no luck and after a few weeks i gave up and bought a new rib.then on tues last week i looked on e/bay and just took one last look for the dinghy, and there on my screen was my dinghy,so i phoned the police and reported it to them, they said that they would send an officer out to se me that day,so i waited up but eventualy went to bed.i was woken at 11.15 that night and told an officer was coming to se me,so i got up and dressed but at 12.15 i rang them and told them not to come as i was gooing back to bed,i was then told someone would come the next day.well the next morning i went to a police station(one thats still open) after a bit of debate i found a policeman who took my statement so i went home and awaited news.the next day a policeman phoned me and asked a few more questions abot the engine then told me they be giving the seller a knock the next morning.
i didnt hold out much hope after all the messing about and debating at the police station but the bobby did his job well and the next afternoon a police van delivered both my dinghy and engine ,so thanks very much to the police in particular the one who took my statement and the one who carried out the raid(knock)then i thought how lucky am i so on saturday i bought my first ever lotery ticket////////// and won how good is that,Kieron

Was the seller local, and if not where was he based? And how did you recognise the dinghy as yours?
Well done on getting it back.

What a great story. I wonder what else Old Bill found at the purps house. Your eagle-eyed determination might have broken a huge crime ring :)

Stolen gear on Ebay

This certainly makes me wonder whether it's a good thing to buy second hand on e-bay. I did buy a second hand, very old, Avon dinghy from e-bay a couple of years ago, makes me wonder.....It has since been stolen from me!

But its not just ebay or the pub. I bought my Avon from a guy who claimed to be a surveyor at Beaulieu. What he said at the time subsequently proved to be wrong, and on reflection afterwards I didnt believe his story about why he was selling the dinghy. I dont know that it is nicked and have no specific reason to think so, but I am uneasy.

"I am in desperate need .......can you help me .... please ! ?"

Have you had any of these yet?

My pal lost his year old dinghy off the jetty at his boatyard... it was not locked up!
A year later almost to the week it turned up on the same jetty, only a little worse for wear.
