Restaurant Calais

There yesterday (by car)

Close to the marina (deserted yesterday) is Le Detroit, Le Channel (newly refurbed) and the out and out fish restaurant which I think is called Le Sole Menueire (I can't spelt it) anyway its next to the Channel which is next to Le Detroit ,can't be missed as you come over the road bridge from the marina and walk straight up towards town as they are on the right at the first cross roads while the Holiday Inn Hotel is on the left. Menus from 18 to 39 Euro. We dined (again) in Le Detroit but have been in Le Channel. The Fish place is very nice but a little dearer.

Walk past if you want up the road and the next group is a bit - how shall I say depressing and some shut. Carry on up the main road and you walk into the shopping area and some brasseries which are ok. But we don't normally bother.

Coming by car? Can give you simple directions if you want

Couple of decent places in Sangatte, just a few miles out of town.....in the main road immediately behind the beach. If you visit the Auchan supermarche, when you come out of the carpark turn immediately right, that takes you down to the coast road.

Just a little further on from Sangatte along the coast is Audierne - I can recommend the Maria Galante restaurant there and there are others to choose from.

Another vote for Le Chanel

One of the best meals we've ever had. Went in 2007 and 8. Very good value fixed price menu although I did hear that the wine had got a bit pricey.

Enjoy!

Restaurant La Mer.

From the marina its almost the first restaurant after the roundabout on the left in the direction of the Hotel de Ville.

See here

A serious Fruits de Mer for one person will set you back 49 euros. I know, I know but the fella I was with said it was well worth the money. Personally I had the less attractively named Monkfish Stew, which was outstanding.

Bon Appetite

The 3 facing the marina are the most costly but good. Le Channel does a great dinner - go there most years when someone else is paying!

Just up the main drag on the same side as the Holiday Inn / market square (but just before you get to the square) is another fishy resturant that is very good....just I cannot remember the name! Also round by the fish quay is another very good and less expensive fish eatery.

If you head towards the beach from the Marina there is a resturant called the 'cote d'or' (I think) which was good this summer too.

I do sometimes eat on the boat - honest!!
