Used thrice last year, sat in a locker over the winter.... On the rail since April.

Stuck it on the dingy started and ran like a good one on the second pull.

Is this the best motor ever?

The only problem with them is they seem a bit heavy IMHO.
But they are robust.
I have a Mariner4.
Very well behaved.
Starts on second pull, even when its had a snooze for a long time.

Carb not emptied for the umpteenth time this winter , and then the tap snapped off in my hand, forcing a long over due service all of 20 mins! Oh the delight in the ease of getting this engine apart, cleaned out the carb bowl full of rubbery deposits from the old petrol! ( fist time in 8 years of ownership)and popped a new tohatsu tap on , now running as well as ever, happy engine it is, well actually happy me. Even SWHBO thinks its great because it starts first time for her usually.

We had two, the first was a year old and been used twice, sat in the locker over winter and seized when my father put it on the dingy at the start of the season so my daughter could use it.

A quick trip to Itchenor some unfolding of the pink paper and one hour later a brand new one was hanging off the back ready to go...the things grandfathers do for their granddaughters!

Outside of that a cracking motor and totally user error when it came to the first one although to this day the family member involved has not put their hands up to say they put it away very badly...

Mine has a Mercury top end, with a Mariner leg...... works a treat, and light, powerful.

Treat the waterways with care though.

Mine was the worst outboard I've ever owned. OK I've only had 4 and two of those were Yamaha, the other was a mariner 4 which was a Yamaha in all but name.
It was OK, but suffered from corrosion, breaking plastic clips, leaky fuel tap and shear pins broke a lot.
And SWMBO could never start it.
Give me a Yamaha 2 anyday.
