Replacing teak ply washboard

I replaced the delaminated ply washboard on our previous boat with two solid teak boards. Current boat has acrylic but it does scratch easily

I was feeling that i might be in a minority of one so i checked with the dear lady wife and happily i now find I'm in a minority of two (she hates the damn things too!)

I also switched to acrylic, which I like in all respects except that it doesn't feel as strong as timber, perhaps more susceptible to a break-in. But I don't know.

I have a mix - solid teak in three sections and 15mm thick HDPE in on piece.

I think the plastic one would be harder to break into. Take a swipe with a sledge hammer and you would more likely knock yourself out!

lookout for an old book case on ebay - they often have solid teak or mahogany shelves which can be fettled into washboards

Just curious - how does solid teak compare to teak faced marine ply by weight - I presume solid wood a bit lighter?

Just weighed our solid teak washboards

Top one, which includes a plastic ventilator grill and a basic lock weighs 1.1kg. Middle one 1.0kg. Bottom one 0.8kg.

You'd have to weigh your ply ones for the comparison.

A friend has fitted acrylic hinged doors as he was fed up with sliding three piece washboards when moored (which is most of the time. They are fitted with vertical piano hinges and swing inwards. They make the interior much lighter and are much more convenient. The washboards can be fitted for sailing in poor conditions.
