Quite looking forward to the challenge... will do heads outlet, and engine intake if all goes well... if it doesn't, I guess I will have bloodied knuckles and have resorted to my angle grinder.. but should still achieve objective.

... what a dull post, I do apologise. :nonchalance:

I'm sanding walls back at the moment, so the idea of removing a seacock is positive exhilarating..!

Let us know how it goes, blooded knuckles and all!

Toby

You need to consider doing all metalwork included in the skinvfitting, valve bends etc as they are probably the same age and material. also jubilee clips for new stainless ones unless in mint condition.

For skin fittings a Fein vibrasaw with an offset diamond coated cutting head or the Bosch equivalent is far better than an angle grinder which tends to gouge the hull.

+1 from my summer experience :D

FF, threads like that are usually best started once you finish the job to avoid the embarrassment (of having to explain why during xmass vacations you're going to be still on the job :p )

good luck, not a job I'd like to tackle in the cold weather though :(

all will be replaced, no half measures. Naturally top quality corrosion resistant fitting to be used.

I was half joking when I mentioned angle grinder... having googled "Fein vibrasaw with an offset diamond coated cutting head", it only lead me to women wanting casual sex in local area.... so I'm sure your advice is relevant, but I'm not sure what a Fein vibrasaw with an offset diamond coated cutting head actually is...:ambivalence:

fein multitool/multimaster whatever http://www.feinus.com/en_us/oscillating/multimaster/

nice piece of kit, a bit too expensive, bosch and einhel do a cheaper ver that accepts all the tools.

indeed....... the one issue is getting to the things, access is not good. It may be a while until I post my results!!

Sounds like you accidentally clicked on your Favourites FF :D

I'll be interested to hear how you get on. I have one to remove on Match when I haul out next spring. I don't like its location - too hard to reach. I'm going to be fitting a new transducer for a CHIRP deep echosounder and the seacock location is ok for that, so I'll remove the seacock and use its hole for the transducer and refit the seacock (a new skin fitting) in a new more convenient position

How old is the boat? Is this the first time replacing? Any particular reason other than preventative maintenance (yes you have me thinking should I be doing same..)

Well jfm has advised me that my GJW insurance policy won't pay out if the boat sinks due to a seacock failing due to electrolysis... Ok, not really the reason, but he's right of course.

I'm just concerned, they are looking quite green, some crusty salt like deposits every now and again, something that when u think about them they just cause a concern, so easy cure - replace.

The Fein Multimaster mains model is shown and the offset tool is third from the right in the first picture.

Basically it allows you to cut close to the hull but parallel.

We use them all the time for mushroom head skin fittings.
